Jamie Stanley took a dominant double victory at the legendary spa Francorchamps in the latest round of the Lotus On Track Elise Trophy as the series made its annual pilgrimage to the home of the Belgian grand prix. Stanley finished second in free practice just two tenths behind pace setter Chris Headlam. When the time came round to qualify the circuit was dry and as the 52 car field headed out Stanley held back to give himself the best possible chance and with his first flying lap posted a time of xxxx which was never bettered as the session finished this left Stanley on pole position by 2.344 seconds from the rest of the pack The next morning greeted the drivers with heavy rain and at the by the time the race started the rain had stopped but the circuit has still very wet from the earlier showers. At the rolling start Stanley got the jump on the chasing pack and led for the first time through eau rouge. At the end of lap one Stanley lead the field by just over two seconds and as send and third were involved he was never challenged. At the flag the FoxINT.com car of Stanley was ten seconds clear of the pack and was overjoyed to stand on the top step with the national anthem blaring out.
If the drivers thought race one was wet race two would be an even greater challenge the standing start was aborted on the grounds of safety and instead the pack would once again take a rolling start. Stanley once again led the field through eau rouge but this time Stanley would have to work much much harder with the chasing pair of Cruikshank and Damoiseaux never far away in their 211s with the added benefit of ABS and traction control they were never far away. Stanley eventually managed to pull a small gap but this was soon whittled away as the trio began to lap the back markers. Stanley held on to the flag to take the win by just 2.4 seconds from Damoiseaux and Cruikshank in third. “ I always dreamed of racing at spa and to take two wins is just unbelievable especially in such demanding conditions” Said Stanley |
